Return to Miami Beach Marina

by jimlubinsky on May 2, 2009
rated 3 stars for location in proximity to South Beach - short cut on north end near Govt Cut for quick beach access. Strong currents north and south, noisy and brightly lit at night. Staff is OK and baths were redone to be quite nice. Can be busy small harbor with some very large Yacht so watch traffic closely. Great access to Ocean and ICW. Avoid primary center channel where cruise ships dock - area has limited access for recreational boaters. Stayed Feb 04, 05, 06, 08.

Absolutley right in the heart of all things in South Beach.
The currents are something to be aware of. They run strong as you are right at the inlet. The docks have seen better days and the prices are out of sight.Great restaurants in the immediate area and a well stocked ships store on location.

One of our favorite marinas in the country in terms of location and proximity to South Beach. You are within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, shops and nightlife. The local wine store and deli are extremely helpful with deliveries to the boat. Great place to watch the boating traffic traverse Government Cut & the Port of Miami. All this helps mitigate the choppy water in the marina at times. The four occassions we have stayed there it has been a very good experience and the staff has been very helpful.

Right in the heart of the action in South Beach. Walk, or short cab ride, to everything. Great restaurant, beaches, shopping, night life. We always stay here when in the Miami area.

Over-priced, poor service, great location.

If you want to stay within walking distance of South Beach, this is the marina you will want, but (and there are a few of them), know that you are probably not going to get a great 'marina' experience. The gas pump had a malfunctioning display and a malfunctioning fuel cut off, their solution was to hose fuel into the water (I knew then I was in the wrong place!). The showers are just OK, old and in need of a redo. The dock hands appear to be travelers/college kids more interested in plying for tips and having their own 'South Beach experience' than being serious boaters. My dock hand managed to pull the crossed stern line too tight and twisted us around in the slip getting us all out of shape, we took a big chip on the stern as the fixed height concrete docks are also very unforgiving with no padding or fenders in sight. The dock hand shamelessly lingered for a tip which was just unwelcome, though I could not fault his enthusiasm, just his 'help'. This marina is busy, with over 400 slips and a lot of traffic in the Miami inlet. We arrived during a regatta and the sailboats were streaming in without any regard for 'rules of the road', they were not too friendly to this newcomer who was trying to figure out where the fuel pump was in amongst the mayhem.
