Introduction:
Situated at the mouth of the Trout River off the Saint Johns River, the SAL Swing Bridge allows rail traffic from Jacksonville and points north to pass over the river. Although the bridge is usually open, it has a closed vertical clearance of two feet. The controlling horizontal clearance for all three bridges that cross the river here is 46 feet.

Navigating the Bridge:
The bridge is usually open and is remotely controlled to allow closings for rail traffic. Red and green lights signal an impending closing. Three bridges cross this area of the Trout River: this bridge, an old draw span the bascule removed and a fixed bridge with a 29-foot fixed vertical clearance.
