Located just inside the Townsend Inlet near the vacation resort of Avalon, Cornell Harbor is situated near Mile Marker 97 on the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway. Cornell Harbor is 20 miles south of Great Egg Inlet and 10 miles northeast of Cape May. As mentioned previously, Avalon is close by and offers boaters a chance to restock, provision and relax a bit in the sun and sand as they make their way up the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway.

While there are two locations here that will accept transient guests at their slips, there are no repairs or fuel facilities available at any of the marinas. For those services, you must travel north of Townends Inlet to Sea Isle City south of Ludlam Bay.

Cornell Harbor and adjoining Pennsylvania Harbor break off the South Channel near Townsends Inlet toward the east, and join up near Avalon in a small creek parallel to the beach. If you are approaching the area from the ocean, be aware that all of the buoys in Townsends Inlet are not charted, as the area is quite dynamic and its channel moves quite frequently. Buoys are moved by the Coast Guard as conditions warrant.

Past the inlet and inside on Ingram Thorofare, Cornell Harbor breaks off between quick flashing red “372: and red nun “374.” Depths on Cornell Harbor are reported to be at least five feet.

There are unfortunately no fuel docks or repair facilities available here, but you can arrange for a transient slip if you call ahead. Anchoring is fairly impossible here.
