Introduction:
Burnt Island lies just south of the town of Boothbay Harbor and stands as a guide to those navigating in or out of Boothbay Harbor and Booth Bay waters. The lighthouse stands 61 feet above the water with a red light that flashes every six seconds. In fog, a horn sounds every 10 seconds.

History:
The lighthouse was established here in 1821, and the United States Coast Guard automated the light and replaced the lens with a 300mm optic in 1989. A light keepers house, boathouse, oil house and fuel house still stand on the property.

The light is currently maintained by the United States Coast Guard as an aid to navigation.

Navigating in and Around the Lighthouse:
Burnt Island Lighthouse is an important aid to navigation in the Boothbay/Linekin Bay area. A white sector beams across the opening to Linekin Bay toward Fisherman Island near Ocean Point, and also south into Booth Bay to guide mariners arriving from the Atlantic into sheltered waters.

Tour Schedule:
There are tours available Monday through Friday at 10 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. during the summer season (June 28 through Sept. 3). Ferry service to the island is provided by Balmy Days Cruises out of Boothbay Harbor.

Several tour boats operate out of Boothbay Harbor and pass the island on their guided tours, for those satisfied with just grabbing a peek at the lighthouse.
