Introduction:
The Indian Island Lighthouse is located on Indian Island at the entrance to Rockport Harbor. The white and black brick lighthouse stands 25 feet above the water with a red light that flashes every six seconds.

History:
The original light station was established here in 1850, and the lighthouse was built in 1875. The United States Coast Guard now maintains it as an aid to navigation, while the building and grounds are privately owned.

Navigating in and Around the Lighthouse:
Use NOAA Chart 13305.

Indian Island Lighthouse is the main beacon guiding boaters into Rockport Harbor from West Penobscot Bay. Once you have locked onto the light, you will be looking for a red and white bell buoy that marks the entrance to the harbor. Beware of Porterfield Ledge to the south, which is marked by a green and white daybeacon.
