Introduction:
Emeryville is a mere mile away from Berkeley by land and only two miles by sea. Bordered on the north by the old ruins of the Berkeley Pier, and to the south by the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, this relatively shallow area of San Francisco Bay is limited to shoal-draft boats (four feet or less), but offers an alternative to Berkeley’s facilities and is a bit “quieter” in nature as far as San Francisco Bay towns go, but still close to the large city of Oakland.

Navigating the Water:
Use NOAA Chart 18650.

Keep in mind that soundings on the chart are listed in fathoms. One fathom equals six feet of depth.

Flashing green “1” and flashing red “2” outline the entrance to the approach channel into the Emeryville Harbor. Depths in the channel are a shallow four feet, but if you can make it past the relatively shoal portion of the channel in the beginning, depths increase to six feet at flashing green “3” and flashing red “4.”

A sharp bend at flashing green “5” takes you on a port turns into the Emeryville Marina with full-service facilities and four- to eight-foot depths among the piers.
