Introduction:
Big Hog Cay is located just to the southeast of Allans-Pensacola Cay (Allans-Pensacola Cay is visible just beyond Big Hog Cay, which is visible in the foreground). Part of the Hog Cays island group, Big Hog Cay lies 45 miles northwest of Marsh Harbour and 26 miles northeast of Grand Bahamas Island. Great Abaco and Crab Cay are just a short sail away.

Navigating the Water:
The only anchorage (if you want to call it that) on Big Hog Cay is off its northern end near a small indentation in the shoreline. The caveat is that it is not very well protected and should only be used in calm weather conditions. Winds from the north can make this area almost dangerous. Depths are 15 feet with a sand bottom in most of the small anchorage area.

Local Notices to Mariners:
See our “Local Notices to Mariners” blog for updates on the latest conditions and advisories for this area.

Things To Do/Local Events:
Aside from snorkeling, beach combing, sailing, and other water activities, there is an active and vibrant calendar of other scheduled events in the Abacos. See our “Helpful Links” section below for a detailed calendar of events.

Transportation:
There is no airstrip on Big Hog Cay, so arriving here by boat is your only option. The two nearest airports are Grand Bahama Airport on Grand Bahamas Island or Marsh Harbour International to the south.
