Introduction:
Fowl and Fish Hawk Cays are among the best snorkeling and diving areas in all of the Abacos, and many boating visitors to the area come here for that very reason. Since the reefs are so precious and delicate, you are not allowed to anchor on coral (see mooring and anchoring instructions below) or damage the reef in any way, even if that means running your boat up onto it. As the image above suggests, the area is remote with no facilities.

Navigating the Water:
With the multitude of beautiful natural reefs in the area and a current that can sometimes move with moderate force, you would be well advised to have the current charts and advance knowledge on what you are doing. As visible in the image above to the left (north) there are a series of reefs with waves breaking on them. In between this area and the Islands itself are a series of moorings that were put down by the Fowl Cay Preserve in order to keep people from anchoring on, and destroying, the reef.

South of the breakers, there are also two area where you can anchor, but be advised that they are “day use” only. Another day use anchorage lies west of Fowl Cay (to the right of the image above).
