I just spent a week a Safe Harbor Beaufort. This is probably the sixth time I have stayed here. It is THE place to stop if you have only a few days to spend. The history here goes back to the 1500's. You can visit all the Bay St shops in one day, but many are closed mid-week in the "low season" after Thanksgiving. The staff is very friendly and professional and I would give the facility 5 stars, even though there can be quiet a bit of jostling from the current and against the wind or from passing boats who ignore the no wake signs but the elimination of the courtesy car which was available during my first visits is the reason. There is only one very small food store, Chapman's, within walking distance of the marina. They do have an eclectic array of cheeses, wine and beer and other sundries. The closest grocery store is the Food Lion, 1.8 miles away. If you have an electric bike it's not a problem. For me, still in the manual bike mode and pulling a wagon, not so much.
Awesome facilities and service along with great dining just a short walk away. Completely rebuilt after hurricane Isaias in 2020, everything is in excellent condition. I am SO happy I decided to cut my stay short at a marina only 1 1/2 hrs north and was able to book here using Dockwa.!
Older facility but clean. Deep water (10’+) on C dock. Free laundry. would give 5 stars if clubhouse was open more days and a grocery store was within biking distance.
To be fair, this is a pet owner's review. The Marina staff were great and did all that would be expected of them. On arrival, I proceeded to the "Ketch" restarant for lunch. I asked a waitress (should I say server person?) If it would be OK for me to sit at the outdoor bar for lunch with my two dogs (each 20 pounders), the server said it would "no problem". Halfway through my lunch, another server looking person approached me to tell me only "service dogs" were allowed in the restaraunt. I informed her/him that I had been told by a server it would be OK for me to sit at the bar. He/She said I must leave. Had I not been so tired from my boat trip I probably would have made a "scene". Instead, I pushed my have eaten plated to her/him and requested my check. In the over 5000 miles of traveling on my boat this is the 1st time this has happened to me. I AWAYS ASK IF MY DOGS ARE OK
The marina staff are exceptionally helpful and attentive. The location is quite relaxing with a great on-site restuarant and pool shaded by moss-laden oak trees. It's a short walk/bike ride to beach shops and a gourmet (high price) grocery. Be sure to stock up on necessities prior to arival. Sunsets were awesome and the stormy weather days were reasonably comfortable on the face dock. We were there for a month and wanted to stay longer but they did not have space. Would definitely stay again on our trip back north.
