Absolutely the best place to stay. We had a transient slip for a few days and were able to launch right there at the marina, good amount of trailer parking. Nice, clean, secure floating docks and restrooms. Can’t say enough about Dockmaster Rick Composono and his crew, they are extremely friendly and helpful, They are the heart of this Marina, we hope they never leave! Stellar people and true friends to boaters. Also, even though we were transient, our dockmates were among the best bunch of boaters we’ve met in 25 yrs of slip rental and transient slips all over Lake Michigan. Would add that the stoplight system for the harbor entrance works really well, and is on a predictable 10 minute schedule - wasn’t a bother at all. Friendly and helpful dock office crew! Had a 50’ slip for several years, fabulous location. Now we use Burnham to launch our trailer boat or when we leave it in a transient slip for occasional weekends. So easy to get to. Can’t leave the trailer overnight, we just bring it home w us if leaving the boat in for a few days. Seemed much less busy at the launch on a weekend than in past years, not sure why. If launching on the weekend maybe check with them about trailer parking availability, and any events at Soldier Field or the park that might affect getting there.
Nice new harbor, totally protected, great location, daily fee pool, friendly staff. Beach right there. Restaurant. Lakefront bike/ walking trail, jet ski rentals. All right there. Would be a great spot for seasonal or transient stay, a short Uber into the city or museums. Boat ramp is excellent but only about 6 trailer parking spots which makes no sense. Fortunately they seem to have an arrangement with a facility near McCormick for overflow trailer parking, not sure what that costs. Also there’s an indoor parking garage for cars, which does get full but there’s another large parking lot a short walk across the bridge over Lake shore Drive. Overall pretty good set up esp for Chicago.
