We arrived later than expected. Dockhand was hard to reach on phone and VHF. We had called earlier to inform Charleston Harbor Marina we would be getting in about 7:00 PM, they said someone would be there all night. Someone was, but not answering phone or VHF for quite sometime. Did not realize the walk to the end of the docks would be more than five minutes to parking lot. Long walk, but got in lots of steps on my stepper counter.
Nice place. Pleasant people. Fixed docks, hard to get on and off with rising and falling tides. Docks lost power a few times, not the fault of the marina. Lots of thunder storms and lightning.
The marina staff was really pleasant and helpful docking. The marina itself was clean and well kept. There were floating docks, but we (being transient boaters for one night) were put on a fixed dock which was difficult at high tide and low tide. The town is in walking distance, and really quaint. Plenty of food choices and intriguing historic areas. All in all we would return to Safe Harbor Oxford and bring stepstools.
We had a nice 3 days at South Jersey Marina before moving on to Rock Hall Md. The floating docks were great, and the dock hands were helpful when needed. We were asked to move to another area because a 119' boat arriving the next day needed plenty of room on the fuel dock. The dock hands were there to make sure the transition went smoothly. Showers and bathrooms were clean for the most part, but there was quite a bit of (what looked like) mold on the ceilings. There is a really nice small restaurant (breakfast and lunch only) right at the marina. There are also many other eating establishments near by.
OK spot. We docked for one night between Cape May NJ and Rock Hall Md. We had made our reservation weeks in advance. Dock hands were right there to help when we arrived (Ryan in particular). We had dinner in the upper level dining room, away from the band and crowds. Dinner was satisfying. The waitstaff was really attentive and doing the best they could short-handed.
