About

Introduction:

Capri Pass is located on the north side of Marco Island on the West Coast of Florida 42 miles south of the town of Cape Coral. There are several marinas in the area both on Marco Island and farther back in Tarpon Bay. The image above is a view from the west looking east over the Isles of Capri in the vicinity of red daybeacon “2” and green daybeacon “3.

Navigating the Water:

Use NOAA Chart 11430.

The approach to Capri Pass is via the Gulf of Mexico from the west. To start the entry in toward Capri Pass, first set a course for the vicinity of waypoint 25 58.251N 81 46.286W. This waypoint should put you near flashing red “2,” which is about 1.5 miles west of Coconut Island (Coconut Island is just south of the Capri Pass channel).

Once you have picked up flashing red “2,” set a course of 078 degrees magnetic for about one mile. This course will put you between flashing green “3” and “4” where you will head farther in to pick up green daybeacon “5” and flashing red “6.” From here you can follow the channel in farther back toward Tarpon Bay (local knowledge preferred) or start to work your way north by turning to port at green daybeacon “3” near Johnson Island. This route will take you on a northerly passage toward Naples on a protected route.
