About

Introduction:

Pews Creek is one of many small pieces of water the pierce the northern New Jersey Coast off Sandy Hook and Raritan bays. Pews Creek is located in the town of Port Mounmouth and is 20 miles south of the southern tip of Manhattan Island (The Battery) and 18 miles northwest of the Shark River (as the crow flies).

The image above is a view from the north looking south over the stone jetties guarding Pews Creek. To the right (west) is the town of Ideal Beach, while the town of Monmouth lies to the left (east). The edge of the Monmouth Cove Marina is visible in the upper left-hand corner of the image. The marina has gas, a 15-ton lift, and accepts transient guests. There is no room for anchoring in the creek; it is too narrow.

Navigating the Water:

Use NOAA Charts 12401 and 12327.

Depths in Pews Creek and on the approach range from three to four feet with shallower spots, so this is strictly a small power boat/shallow cruiser inlet. From Lower Bay, set a course to arrive in the area of waypoint N40 26.975 W74 05.891. Once you have arrived near this spot, you can line up for the inlet, keeping in mind that the east side is very shallow (the shoal can be seen in the image above). Two privately maintained marks are positions off each end of the inlet jetties.

Local Notices to Mariners:

Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
