About

Introduction:

Fort Pierce Inlet is well-protected and easy to navigate. Currents can run strong here, as with any South Florida Inlet, but with its wide channel width and good depths, the inlet is heavily used by both commercial and recreational traffic. Excellent facilities are available in Fort Pierce with several full-service marinas and repair facilities available to the boater.

Navigating the Water:

Use NOAA Chart 11472.

After picking up the red and white Morse (A) Buoy marking the offshore entrance to the inlet, a series of flashing red and green buoys will guide you in toward the breakwaters. The breakwaters are not lit, so careful attention to the lit aids to navigation is warranted if attempting the inlet at night. Twenty-three foot depths are reported in the 100-foot-wide channel all the way to the intersection with the Intracoastal Waterway.

Local Notices to Mariners:

Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
