About

Introduction:

Stump Pass is located near Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Mile 40. Stump Pass and the surrounding waters of Lemon Bay are 14 miles north of the Boca Grande Pass and 14 miles southeast of Venice. The image above is a view from the southwest looking northeast over Stump Pass and Lemon Bay.

Navigating the Water:

While the image above shows many boats coming and going through Stump Pass, keep in mind that the inlet is ever-changing, and despite dredging, the inlet has shoal areas of four feet and less (most of the boats you see are shoal-draft runabouts). There are aids to navigation placed throughout Stump Pass, but they are moved frequently by the Coast Guard to reflect the areas of deepest depths from recent depth surveys.

The Fish Tale Marina at Stump Pass is located across Lemon Bay from Stump Pass (upper right hand side of image above) with its own marked channel, while Palm Island Marina and Cape Haze Marina Bay are located on the southern portion of Lemon Bay about a mile south of GIWW Mile 40.

Local Notices to Mariners:

Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
