Situated in Mayport, FL, on Florida’s East Coast, Sisters Creek is located off the St. Johns River about 35 miles north of St. Augustine and 21 miles south of the St. Marys River Entrance in Georgia. The image above is a view from the west looking east over Sisters Creek where it empties into the St. Johns River, with the Sisters Creek Bascule Bridge in the background.

There are two marina facilities in the area, and the first can be seen to the right (east) of the aerial image above with heavy-duty repair facilities and a marine railway. Farther up Sisters Creek to the north are a couple of smaller marinas with limited facilities.

Sisters Creek is the southern terminus of the Intracoastal Waterway where it empties into the St. Johns River east of Jacksonville. The Waterway route crosses the St. Johns River from here. heading southeast toward Chicopit Bay where the ICW route picks up again near Marsh Island.

Approaching The inlet from the north, you must first pass through the Sister Creek Bascule Bridge, which has a closed vertical clearance of 24 feet. The bridge opens on signal. Once you have cleared the bridge, proceed south and intercept flashing red “86” and flashing red “88,” where you will start a course southeast across the St. Johns River to Chicopit Bay. Chicopit Bay is located about .7 mile away on an approximate course of 161 degrees magnetic.
