Situated between the Commercial Boulevard and the Sunrise Boulevard bascule bridges at Intracoastal Waterway Mile Marker 1060.6, the Oakland Park Beach Boulevard Bascule Bridge has a 22-foot closed vertical clearance with 88 feet of horizontal clearance at the center span. The bridge operates on a restricted schedule. From Nov. 1 through May 15, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the bridge opens on the hour and at 20 and 40 minutes past the hour. Saturday, Sunday and Federal holidays the bridge opens on the hour and every 15 minutes thereafter.
This is a busy stretch of the Waterway and boating traffic can be heavy, especially on weekends. Boats can pile up at the bridges waiting for openings, so keep a close lookout for other traffic when transiting the span.
Depending on schedule, the bridge can be opened by horn signal (one long, one short) or by hailing the bridge tender on VHF Channel 09. (All bridges in the state of Florida must be hailed on VHF Channel 09.)
