Introduction:
The Ernest J. Lyons Bascule Bridge crosses the Indian River at Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) Mile Marker 984.9 just north of the Saint Lucie Inlet and the junction of the Indian and Saint Lucie rivers. The bridge has a 28-foot vertical clearance with 90 feet of horizontal space at the center span and opens on demand. A new high-clearance fixed bridge is currently under construction to replace the old drawbridge.

Navigating the Bridge:
Keep an eye out for construction barges and other construction traffic while the replacement span is being built. The bridge can be opened by horn signal (one long, one short) or by hailing the bridge tender on VHF Channel 09. (All bridges in the state of Florida must be hailed on VHF Channel 09.)
