About

Introduction:

Falmouth Harbour is located on the Southern Coast of Antigua just west of English Harbour, and about an eight-mile journey from Willoughby Bay, which is to the east. Falmouth Harbour among the best-equipped areas on Antigua’s Southern Coast along with English Harbour. The harbour has at least four marinas along the shoreline, all of them accepting transient guests at their slips and offering a wide range of amenities ashore.

Anchoring is permitted in Falmouth Harbour, but there are also orange mooring buoys operated by a local outfit for rent. Hail “Sea Pony” on VHF Channel 68 for more details. If you do choose to drop the hook, the most well protected area of the harbor is on its eastern side, southwest of the Falmouth Harbor Marina. There is also anchoring room on the northern end of the harbour near the long jetty and work yard.

Navigating the Water:

Entering Falmouth Harbor is simple and easy, and there are no real obstacles from the west, south, ore east on approach. To set yourself up for the entrance, head for lat/lon N17 00.211 W61 47.049, which is about .8 mile from the flashing red buoy the marks the reef (Bishop Shoal - visible on the right side of the entrance in the image above) extending off Blacks Point on the east side of the entrance. A range is available to help guide you in along a course of 043 degrees magnetic from the aforementioned waypoint.

Once you have cleared the entrance, you can make an eastward bend toward Falmouth Harbor Marina and the southern anchorage, or head north on a course of 043 degrees magnetic to the wharf near the Catamaran Club Marina. Here you can tie up at the marina or drop the hook just offshore.
