Introduction:
The north fork of the Saint Lucie River begins at Britt Point, north of Stuart, where the Saint Lucie River splits into two branches. The north fork is worth exploration, but facilities are limited once you are clear of Britt Point.

Navigating the Water:
Use NOAA Chart 11428.

Approaching from the main stem of the Saint Lucie River to the east, you will have to clear a high fixed bridge (65-foot vertical clearance) and two smaller bascule bridges with seven- and 14-foot closed vertical clearances. The railroad bascule bridge is usually open unless a train is approaching, and the other bascule bridge opens on demand.

Once clear of the bridges, the north bend of the river is wide, deep and well marked where shoals do exist.

Local Notices to Mariners:
Local Notices to Mariners are now exclusively available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
