Located on the north shore of Long Island, Huntington Harbor is 12 miles southeast of Stamford and 40 miles east of New York City. One of the most densely populated boat harbors on Long Island, you are greeted by hundreds upon hundreds of moorings and 14 marina facilities upon your arrival. Ashore, the town of Huntington is ripe for exploring, and an excellent market and pharmacy help with provisioning chores.

From Huntington Bay off Long Island Sound, set a course for flashing red bell buoy “8” off East Fort Point, and then head to Huntington Harbor Light, which is about 1.5 miles to the southwest off Lloyd Harbor (flashing green buoy “1” also serves as an entrance marker to the harbor near the same location). Once you have safely negotiated the beginning of the entrance channel, follow red nun “2,” green can “3,” and flashing red buoy “4” in toward Wicoma Point (to the left in the image above).

Flashing red “6” comes next (visible to the right, near shore, in the image above), and then flashing green buoy “7.” A series of unlighted nun and can buoys mark the rest of the nine- to 11-foot deep channel all the way down to the Huntington Town Dock, about one mile to the southeast.

Inside the harbor, you will find no less than 14 marinas and marine facilities. Eight of these facilities accommodate transient guests at their slips and five of them have haul-out service and repairs. Scattered among the marinas (seemingly on every inch of spare space), are hundred of moorings that are maintained by various marinas and yacht clubs in the area. Most moorings have information on them concerning rates, payment or if they are private.
