The town of Mattituck and adjoining Mattituck Creek are the only stopover point on the extensive north shore of Long Island between Plum Island and Mount Sinai Harbor. Mount Sinai Harbor is located 25 miles to the west of Mattituck Creek and Plum Island is 24 miles to the east. While many people make the long 40-mile journey from Plum Gut to Mount Sinai in one shot, those with a more leisurely pace in mind might prefer a stop in Mattituck.

With six-foot depths all the way to the town dock in Mattituck and a variety of marine services to be had, a stop in Mattituck need not be “roughing it.” There are five good facilities along the length of the creek, and two of them have transient facilities. There are also two marinas with haul-out and repair capabilities as well. The town has a nice market for provisioning.

Mattituck Creek is approached from the north via Long Island Sound. Flashing red light “MI” is located on the west breakwater of the inlet and serves as the primary aid to navigation in to the harbor. Once you have cleared the twisty entrance, a mid-channel course will keep you in the deepest water all the way to the town dock.

There are three marinas very close to the entrance and two more about a half-mile farther upstream. Each “cluster” of marinas has at least one yard with transient slips and another with repair facilities. Anchorage is available at the head of the creek.
