Introduction:
Wilson Harbor is located off Lake Ontario 12 miles east of the Niagara River and about seven miles west of Olcott. Toronto is only 30 miles to the northwest of Wilson, which makes this an excellent spot to base a cross-lake journey from. There are plenty of local shops for provisioning, a couple of excellent restaurants and of course, a good supply of well-equipped marinas.

Navigating the Water:
Use NOAA Chart 14810.

Wilson Harbor and adjoining Tuscarora Bay are approached form the north via Lake Ontario. From Lake Ontario, set a course for flashing red “2” at the west jetty to the inlet (visible in the image above). From here, steer your way through the five-foot-deep entry channel into the harbor. Once you have cleared the inlet jetties, a line of unlighted privately maintained buoys will help to keep you in the deepest water. The rest of the harbor has four-foot depths with deeper spots in various places.

There are five capable marine facilities on Wilson Harbor. The first three are situated around an island that is located just inside the inlet. Wilson Yacht Club is located on the Island and the other two facilities are situated adjacent to the island on shore. All of these marinas offer transient facilities to visiting boaters. Farther down the harbor in Tuscarora Bay are two marinas at the mouth of the East Branch of Twelvemile Creek. Both marinas accept transient guests and one has haul-out facilities and repairs.
