The 123-foot-tall Petit Manan Lighthouse casts a flashing white light every ten seconds, and sounds a horn blast every 30 seconds during periods of foggy weather. The light stands three miles south of Petit Manan Point, and is just southeast of Green Island in the Atlantic Ocean.

The original light station was established here in 1817, and the lighthouse itself was built with granite and brick in 1855. Six other structures, including a keeper’s house, are still standing on the island.

The lighthouse is not open to the public, although the island is part of the Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge and can be explored by foot. Landing on the island is extremely difficult, even by dinghy.
