The Winter Harbor Yacht Club was founded in the 1890s along with the development of the Grindstone Neck summer community. The club is located in Downeast Maine across Frenchman Bay from Mount Desert Island and Bar Harbor. The club is the center of social life on Grindstone Neck and offers members a wide variety of sailing and racing activities including Knockabout races, Bullseye races, and a Junior Sailing program. The WHYC member facilities include a snack bar, moorings, and a launch service. It is closely associated with the Grindstone Association where golf, tennis and swimming are available.
Beautiful clubhouse and facilities. The Harbour staff were very helpful and accommodating! A definite stop next year! Thank you
Great launch service by Nathan, very clean facilities and beautiful club house.
Jim and the staff were very accommodating to us. We needed help bringing our e-bikes to explore town and Acadia National Park’s Schoodic Peninsula and they accommodated that expeditiously. Comfortable and inviting clubhouse. Unfortunately lunch was not available but plenty of options in town. We can’t wait to return.
Jim, Nathan and Audry were great to us, just as in the past. It is a very nice marina run well by Jim and Nathan. We hated to leave!
Great spot in a beautiful and quiet harbor. Launch service available, but only to 6pm, so you really need your dink. Great cafe in town called The Gallery.. Pretty clubhouse.
Jim and Nathan do a great job running the waterfront. The club’s floating dock and moorings are well maintained. Great facility great staff
Friendly staff, comfortable mooring, nice walk into town
Courteous responsive personnel and a wonderful facility
Wonderful location great welcome and excellent lunch at the Yacht Club
Second stay this week and it was great! Staff is super helpful and the facilities are perfect. Welcoming to visitors and a spectacular location. We’ll be back again and again 😃⛵️
Great place! Nice people, quiet mooring, convenient to town. And a bonus swimming pool! We will return!
Our family had such a great day at the Winter Harbor Yacht Club! We received excellent service at the dock unloading our small children and all of their stuff for a day at the pool, including a stroller for a walk to downtown Winter Harbor. Rob was super helpful showing me how to tie up to the mooring. Jim picked us up in a tender and took us back to the mooring at the end of the day. The ride over and back from MDI was gorgeous. It couldn’t have been more perfect! We hope to make this trip every summer and maybe stay overnight next time!
Club facilities, staff, small town and Bean bus access wonderful. Can be a little rolling at slack tides
Beautiful club, launch, docks, and setting. Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and professional. Hope to visit again.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Beautiful spot. Short 1mi walk to town and the Island Explorer bus.
Gorgeous Harbor. Super easy to take the launch to the club with a great lunch spot and pool. Short walk or bike to town, and can take Acadia Shuttle to amazing trails. Bike rentals right in town also. A few little restaurants. Really old school, quaint club.
Wonderful moorings. Lunch at snack bar was terrific and dock master very welcoming. Have stayed before and hope to make this a yearly destination
Lovely facility, great lunch and very welcoming staff
We were warmly welcomed — for our day trip to Winter harbor. They arranged lunch reservations for our party of 6 as well as scheduled the launch service to pick us up. The food was really good and had lots of variety. They were willing to customize any way that they could to meet our needs. The yacht club seemed to be a very friendly and offered lots of activities for the whole family. Not fancy, but definitely was welcoming and accommodating. Definitely met the needs of the community. Reubens, Lobster BLT and Blueberry pie as well as the delicious cookies were hits with our group.
This is a very responsive and welcoming place. It’s a nice respite from the hustle of MDI. Jim was very thoughtful trying to accommodate us when they were full. Tender driver Sam came by and could not have been more polite and friendly. Thank you for running a great operation with labor in short supply.
Gorgeous views, always an eagle or two. Facilities are rustic and quite charming. Dock crew is always friendly and helpful. Had delicious sandwiches from the walk up window. Probably won't do that again though. We expected it to be a tad pricey, did not expect an automatic 20% gratuity for a take-out and that included the self-serve beer.
It was a lovely stay, we were directed to our mooring by a courteous launch driver. We enjoyed a lovely lunch followed by a walk over the trail with great views. It is be of our favorite spots!!
Very pleasant staff, nice moorings, great launch service.
Ethan and Rob on the dock and with the launch were terrific. Polite, helpful, and available. And the food delivered was delicious.
WHYC is an absolutely beautiful old club. The staff is friendly and attentive and the members are welcoming. We’ll be back next year.
