Introduction:

The Fish Cays are a series of long, slender islands that lie off the north side of Little Abaco Island in the Abacos island chain. Uninhabited, but fun to explore and investigate, the Fish Cays are 60 miles northwest of Marsh Harbour and 21 miles northeast of Grand Bahama Island.

Navigating the Water:

There are four anchorages scattered along the length of the northern Fish Cays, but unfortunately, none of them offer complete protection from all directions. The first is on the north side of Lower Cay in about 8 to 12 feet of water and offers good protection from only the southeast through southwest. Farther up the chain to the northwest is a nice little cove between Upper and Southwest cays in 8 feet of water. This area is protected only from the north and south. Lastly, a small bight in the south side of Big Fish Cay is a good refuge from northers, but will leave you rocking and rolling with winds from the south. It is also a dangerous lee shore when winds clock from the south.
