Stony Point Bay and the town of Stony Point are located off the Hudson River about 35 miles north of Manhattan and 18 miles south of Newburgh. The town and bay both get their name from the prominent geographic point about a half-mile north of the city center that narrows the Hudson River down at the town of Verplanck on the river’s east shore.

The town is most famous for the Battle of Stony Point, where in 1779 thousands of Continental troops stormed the British held garrison that was holding the river hostage. Today, a national historic site sits on Stony Point and guests can take an interactive tour of the grounds to relive the battle.

Despite the plethora or marinas that line the waterfront here, transient dockage is scarce, as most of the slips are taken by local boats. Both marinas do their best to make arrangements for visiting guests, but if you run out of luck, radio the marina in Haverstraw just to the south to see if they can accommodate you.

Stony Point Bay and the town of Stony Point are located north of Haverstraw Bay on the west shore of the Hudson River. Approaching from the south, you will leave the Hudson River channel at flashing green buoy “25” southeast of Grassy Point, and then set a course for quick flashing red buoy “2” to the north in Stony Point Bay. From here, you can set a straight course for the marinas in Stony Point, or follow a well-marked channel into the marinas on the north end of Grassy Point.

The marinas on the Stony Point waterfront do their best to accommodate transient guests, but they are almost always filled with local boats. Anchoring is allowed, but very unprotected and subject to wakes from passing boats.
