The city of Boqueron is located on the lower western end of Puerto Rico and boasts some of the most fantastic and jaw-dropping white sand beaches on the entire island. For yachting interests, Boqueron has one of the most popular anchorages on the western shore of Puerto Rico, and according to some, one of the best on the entire island.
The white sand beach here is over a mile long and attracts all sorts of people looking to enjoy a peaceful view of the turquoise waters that lap the shore. If the beach is not necessarily your scene, the Boqueron Nature Reserve and Rojo National Wildlife Refuge are easily accessible via a short hike from the waterfront. There are markets, groceries, marine supplies, restaurants and night life ashore.
There are two entry points into Boqueron Bay: Canal Sur to the south, and Canal Norte to the north. A flashing green light marks the deeper southern (Canal Sur) passage, and once you have cleared this, you can proceed into Boqueron Bay.
Visible in the image above, a large shoal known as Bajo Emmedio is located in the center of the Bay of Boqueron and the slightly adventurous can tuck in behind it for some anchorage protection (depths behind the shoal are around seven feet).
Fuel is available in the northwestern corner of Boqueron Bay, but call ahead to Club Nautico de Boqueron ahead of time to discuss arrangements, as the marina is not directly responsible for dispensing the fuel. Capitol Gasonline, sometimes reachable on VHF CHannel 68, is the fuel provider. You may also be able to do some light provisioning here, as Capitol Gasoline has a certain amount of groceries and marine supplies.
