Located on the western shore of the beautiful island of St. Lucia, Marigot Bay is an appealing harbor lined with palm trees and lush mountains that give it that typical Caribbean feel. Marigot Bay is located about 4 miles south of the capital of Castries and 10 miles north of Pitons Bay. James Michener once called this “one of the finest anchorages in the Caribbean.”

Ashore in Marigot Bay at its head is the Marigot Bay Marina, which offers transient slips, diesel fuel and gasoline, water, and other supplies. You can find a market ashore for provisioning, and if you need a lift from the anchorage, simply call Taxi Service Marigot on VHF Channel 16. Locals may approach your boat and try to sell you produce, but many cruisers report that the prices are about twice what you find at the local markets.

If dining is your goal, Marigot Bay does not disappoint. There are several good dock bars and many more restaurants ashore that have typical local dishes and other cuisines to suit different tastes.

For those arriving in St. Lucia from outside countries, Marigot Bay has a office for checking through and clearing customs.

Marigot Bay is approached from the west via the Caribbean Sea. Once you are within sight of the opening, keep an eye out for an infamous red-roofed house (the only real landmark, visible in the image above) on the top of the hill that lies on the southern portion of the entrance. Once you have sighted yourself up for the entrance, head along the south end of the bay, using the long palm-lined spit of sand on the north shore to help guide you in farther.

No anchoring is allowed between the Marigot Beach Club and the south shore of Marigot Bay - there is a cable crossing here. West of the beach club, there is a large anchorage in 18 to 24 feet of water. This area is also home to a frequently found shoal taht extends south of the sandy beach - keep an eye out for it.

There are two airports on the island: Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort (UVF) is located 40 miles south of Castries and George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) which adorns a pleasant coastline on the outskirts Castries. Daily non-stop service is available from Miami, New York City, London, and several other international cities.
