Introduction:
Icacos Island is located about 6 miles off the town of Isidra, which is located on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico. Icacos Island, or “Cayos Icacos” (Icacos Key) is part of the long chain of islands that makes up the Spanish Virgin Islands, which stretches 23 miles from the northeastern tip of Puerto Rico southeast to Culebra Island (also part of the chain), and includes the island of Ceibra, which is 13 miles to the southwest of Cluebra. Icacos is the second largest island in this stretch.

Many of the islands in the chain, including Icacos, are popular with snorkelers and SCUBA divers, but Icacos is a favorite, as boat excursions run here quite often from the mainland.

Navigating the Water:
An anchorage area is available on the southwest side of the island (look for the scattered sailboats to the right of the island in the image above) and is fairly easy to enter, but as with any ocean anchorage, it can be uncomfortable in the wrong wind conditions. The island is part of the Cordillera Reserve, and is occasionally policed by the local department of natural resources.
