Introduction:
Mount Desert Rock is a remote outpost situated about 20 miles south of Mount Desert Island out in the Atlantic Ocean.

The granite lighthouse structure stands 75 feet above the water and has a white light that flashes every 15 seconds. The fog signal runs continuously, with two blasts every 30 seconds.

History:
The original light station was established here in 183, while the lighthouse itself was not constructed until 1847. The United States Coast Guard full automated the light in 1977.
Several other buildings, some over 100 years old are still standing on the island.

Navigating in and Around the Lighthouse:
Use NOAA Chart 13260.

Local Notices to Mariners:
Local Notices to Mariners are now available exclusively online from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Tour Schedule:
Unfortunately, the island and lighthouse are not open to the public. Your best chance of grabbing a look at the lighthouse is from the water.
