Vero Beach is located on Florida’s East Coast about 35 miles southeast of Melbourne and 32 miles north of the Saint Lucie Inlet. It is this central location on the coast, along with a good array of services and shoreside shopping that makes Vero Beach so popular. With that in mind, be aware that space is very limited here. If you pick up a mooring, you will likely be required to raft with another boat, and if you want to tie up for the evening, reservations are a must.

Most of the marinas and the popular mooring field in Vero Beach are behind Fritz Island, which is north of the Merril P. Barber Bridge (66-foot fixed vertical clearance) off the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway. To reach this area, you must first exit the ICW at flashing green “139,” and then head east toward the creek opening and green daybeacon “3” and flashing red “2.”

Once you have entered the creek, red daybeacon “4,” green daybeacon “5,” and green daybeacon “7” lead the rest of the way up the creek and past the anchorage to the marinas. The depths here range from five to seven feet.

Space is tight in Vero Beach, and if you pick up one of the city moorings, be aware that you will likely be required to raft with another boat during your stay. If you want to tie up at a dock for the evening, we recommend making reservations as soon as you have the idea to stay here.
