Introduction:
A big conglomeration of tourist attractions, harbor ferry terminals, commercial fishing piers and two docks full of wild sea lions who have taken up permanent residence here, Fishermans Wharf is a busy and raucous place for a tie up, but it does put you within walking distance of some of San Francisco’s biggest attractions.

Navigating the Water:
Use NOAA Chart 18650.

San Francisco Bay is a notoriously tricky body of water to navigate. Very popular with the local sailing fleet due to its unusually strong winds, the local conditions here can sometimes catch the visiting mariner off guard. Those strong winds in combination with the area’s swift tidal currents can whip up quite a chop at times.

If approaching from the ocean, Fishermans Wharf is located to port and the entrance to the protected harbor is marked with a series of flashing yellow warning lights. Flashing red “2” marks the eastern extent of the breakwall and the entrance to Fisherman’s Wharf. Keep and eye out for arriving and departing ferry traffic.

Local Notices to Mariners:
Local Notices to Mariners are now exclusively available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Whether you choose to get around town on a bus, subway, taxicab or street car, there’s no real limitation on where you can or cannot get to in this wonderful town.
