Falmouth Inner Harbor and the Town of Falmouth are located six miles north of Vineyard Haven and are only four miles around the corner from Woods Hole. Falmouth Inner Harbor is the first Cape Cod South Shore harbor with facilities traveling east from Woods Hole. Inside the harbor you will find nine marinas and marine facilities offering a variety of services in a well protected and nicely maintained harbor setting. This is an excellent stop for mariners cruising east that did not quite make it far east enough to hit Waquoit Bay, or for those wishing a little quieter and less expensive retreat when compared to Vineyard Haven.

Falmouth, as a coastal community with many beaches, freshwater ponds, fields and forest areas, has a semi-rural character typical of much of the less developed sections of Cape Cod. These qualities bring many visitors from throughout the country and abroad for vacation and summer residence. It is these qualities that Falmouth strives to protect as its greatest economic resource.

Falmouth's winter population of over 30,000 places it second only to Barnstable as a population center on Cape Cod. The Town is composed of eight distinct villages: Falmouth Center, East Falmouth, Hatchville, North Falmouth, Teaticket, Waquoit, West Falmouth and Woods Hole.

Falmouth today is growing with a continued strong tourist economy, active scientific institutions, a well-educated work force and a strong sense of community.

Originally settled almost 9,000 years ago by paleoindians, the first English settlers arrived in Falmouth in the early 1600's. Its present population is over 33,000 people in an area of 44.5 square miles with a 77 mile coastline along its southern and western coasts. Eleven harbors make it a boating paradise.

Falmouth Inner harbor is easy to find, simple to navigate and has six-foot depths from the entrance all the way to the head of the harbor. If you are approaching from Woods Hole, simply set a course to the northeast to intercept flashing green one at the east breakwall to Falmouth Inner Harbor

Once you have cleared Nobska Point. The only obstacle between Nobska Point and Falmouth Inner Harbor is a 13- to 16-foot deep ledge on the south side of Falmouth Harbor, which is marked by a red and green buoy. An intermediate lit mark between Nobska Point and Falmouth Inner harbor is flashing red "16," about a mile south of the Falmouth Inner harbor opening. Flashing green "1" marks the entrance into the harbor.

Approaching from the south or east, simply pick up flashing green "16," and then head for flashing green "1" at the mouth of the harbor on the south breakwall.
