Essex Island is a nice place to stop, It was our 4th time in a dozen years. Normally I give it a higher review but we, along with a few other guests were not thrilled to be kicked out of the pool at 6PM on a sweltering day when we were told 7PM is the time it closes. There is no life guard anyway with a big sign stating that. The claim was that no staff member was on the island in case of a problem which I was surprised about. In my younger days I would have just jumped the fence when they left the island and went back in.
We apologize that you had this experience and were frustrated by the time adjustment at the swimming pool. We have had to make some unfortunate changes because of the pandemic and monitoring pool activity is one of them. We require staff to be present on site during pool hours to do COVID safety checks to ensure that safety protocols are followed (COVID protocols per Essex Town Health Department: capacity monitoring, social distancing, masks while traveling around the deck space). We should have made that much clearer to you during your stay. We hope you understand. When you return, we hope the COVID protocols are lifted and you may swim without restrictions!
