Located on the northwest coast of Puerto Rico, Aguadilla was once home to Ramey Air Force Base, but the town is now most famous for its beautiful surfing beaches where thousands of locals and visitors shred the waves with surfboards, wind surfers and para boards each year. Crash Boat Beach, just north of Aguadilla is one of the most popular water sports beaches on the Puerto Rico West Coast.
Aguadilla is an excellent place to base your further exploration of Puerto Rico from. Rental cars are available and the towns of Rincon, Victoria, and Isabela are all within reasonable driving distance.
The anchorage in Aguadilla is usable in most wind directions, but if the breeze is clocking out of the north or northwest at any decent velocity, this will render the anchorage unusable. Boaters should be advised that even in good conditions the anchorage can be uncomfortable, but many transient cruisers still drop the hook here.
Summer has the best weather conditions with prevailing winds form the south and southeast. Winter northers make the anchorage unsafe and unbearable due to ocean swells.
