Introduction:
Castries is the capital of St. Lucia and the center of activities on the island. Although there are many different coves, anchorages and other outposts on the island, most people arriving to the island via plane, ship or ferry put into Castries.
The primary yachting area in Castrie is Vigies Creek, located right near the Vigies Airport. There is a well protected anchorage and several marine related business here. Additional facilities, including a customs office for checking in, are located farther up toward castries itself past the cruise ship docks.
Navigating the Water:
Entering Port Castries is easy, as long as you keep an eye out for arriving and departing cruise and commercial traffic. Large ships and local ferry boats frequent the harbor day and night.
On entry from the Caribbean, the first obstacle is Tapion Rock, which is visible in the image above extending into the harbor on the right (south) side of the harbor. This is marked with a flashing white light. Past Topion Rock, a flashing red and flashing green buoy pair aid you on your way in, and finally, a flashing green light marks the end of the runway at the Vigie Airport.
The first anchorage you will encounter is on the north shore of Port Castries just past the aforementioned runway in Vigies Creek. Her you will find a variety of shore-based marine services and a couple of dock bars and restaurants. The waterfront provides excellent access to explore Castries.
Farther in past the cruise ship docks, is the town anchorage, which unfortunately can be quite loud and raucous, due to the activities ashore. Vigies Creek, described above, is the preferred hangout spot for boaters.

Transportation:
There are two airports on the island: Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort (UVF) is located 40 miles south of Castries and George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) which adorns a pleasant coastline on the outskirts Castries. Daily non-stop service is available from Miami, New York City, London, and several other international cities.
