About

Introduction:

Located just south of Intracoastal Waterway Mile Marker 945, the Indian River Narrows is aptly named for the winding passage it makes in and out of a series of islands that dot the landscape here. The channel is well marked, but heavily traveled, so a close watch for other boaters is a must.

Navigating the Water:

Use NOAA Chart 11472.

Sandwiched between a series of islands in the Indian River, this cut is well marked and carries good depths farther north to Wabasso Beach. Approaching from the south, pick up flashing red “118” at North Sister Island, and then follow the series of daybeacons and lit markers along Johns and Barker islands. The route continues north past Pine Island from here and onto Wabasso beach.

Local Notices to Mariners:

Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
