Deep Creek |
This particular Deep Creek (there are several on the Chesapeake Bay) breaks off of Back River on its northern shore about six mile in from the entrance. Home to a small marina and a cove with limited anchoring room, Deep Creek is most often visited by boaters looking for a quiet and undisturbed space.
Use NOAA Chart 12278.
Although somewhat off the beaten path, Back River--and more specifically Deep Creek do have some spots for anchoring and a few select marinas along the way. Back Creek is located on the northern shore of Back River about six miles in from the entrance to Back River at Hart-Miller Island.
Once you have cleared the entrance to Back River, set a course for green daybeacon 7, and then red daybeacon 12 near Muddy Gut. Red nun 4 marks the entrance to Deep Creek. Depths in the creek are around nine feet, but shoal quickly past the entrance. A small marina is available to the east.
Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
