About

Introduction:

Situated about 15 miles of the state capital of Annapolis, off Herring Bay, Rockhold Creek is home to some of the last “real” full service marine facilities available on the Western Shore of Maryland if you are headed south to the Solomons area. In addition to the multitude of marine and marina facilities, Rockhold Creek and the town of Deale are the home to a large portion of the mid-Bay charter fishing fleet.

Navigating the Water:

Use NOAA Chart 12270.

From Herring Bay, flashing green “1” marks the entrance to Rockhold Creek. The next mark, flashing red “2,” marks the southern end of the breakwater that extends southward form Owings Beach. From the breakwater, follow the daybeacon and lit aids into the creek. Depths are reportedly holding stable at 5.5 feet all the way up to the 14-foot fixed vertical clearance bridge, which limits travel farther upstream for all but the lowest and shallowest draft boats.

Local Notices to Mariners:

Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
