Little Egg Harbor |
Tuckerton Creek is a small tributary of Little Egg Harbor that is located on the southern portion of the harbor about four miles west of the Little Egg Inlet. Tuckerton Creek is a good alternative to the marinas in Beach Haven (north of the Little Egg Inlet) if you are looking for a little peace and quiet, and if you draw less that four feet.
Use NOAA Chart 12316.
From the New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway at Mile Marker 50, set a course to intercept green can 1, which is just north of the mouth to Big Sheepshead Creek. Once you have picked up green can 1 and red nun 2, head north to red nun 4, making sure to stay toward the red side of the channel to avoid a shallow spot to the east.
Red nun 4 leads on to green can 3, red nun 4, and then to green can 5 at the mouth of Marshelder Channel. Marshelder Channel is largely unmarked as you head to the west until you hit Story Island Channel where you will pick up flashing white 7, and then flashing red 12 at the beginning to the approach channel to Tuckerton Creek Inlet.
Once you have picked up flashing red 14. you will turn toward the west and move along the four-foot deep channel, honoring all the placed marks until you reach flashing white 17 at the mouth of Tuckerton Creek.
Among the 13 marinas on Tuckerton Creek, five of them will accept transient guests at their slips. Repairs and related services are available at four facilities with lifts for haul-outs.
Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
