Grand Marina - Vladimir D.Oct 04, 2010

Good, safe marina with full services. Very close to West Marine, Pineapple Sails, Svendsen's... Reasonable prices and availability of slips. There is a broker at the marina to help sell a boat. Limited live-aboard slips. 5 stars, but the only down side to the location for sailboats is the distance to the "slot." It's great for sailing the estuary, but it's a lot of upwind tacking against prevailing W winds up the estuary to the Bay with lots of wind shadows, dead zones and port and ferry traffic. So, motor sailing is a must to get to the "slot" within decent time ~1hr. Challenge is that Treasure Island, the Bay Bridge and downtown SF all create wind shadows as you exit into the Bay, so clear wind to get out under sail alone doesn't typically start until you round Treasure Island.
