Report Review

We like coming to Cuttyhunk, but this was the second time this summer where we showed up on time (first time at 12:35 PM, second at 12:45 PM) only to find the mooring or slip still occupied well after the 1 PM check-in time. The check-out time of 11 AM doesn’t seem to be enforced….combined with some inconsiderate captains. In both cases we had to take a temporary mooring while we waited. I realize the harbormaster has limited ability to force a departure by an obstinate captain, but why not impose a monetary penalty for overstaying the mandatory departure time by over two hours? Or make the recalcitrant captain pick up the cost for the disadvantaged captain? Ironically, I received a reminder email to ensure that I departed BEFORE 11 AM the next day (I left at 9 AM). The same thing also happened a week earlier at Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard (Menemsha Harbor). Had to wait on a mooring until the belligerent captain decided to leave. The dockhands apologized profusely when I finally was able to take my slip, but they have little ability to enforce the rules, or even influence normal boater protocol between captains. Again, DockWa should charge the next boater’s slip fee to the belligerent captain…as a fine simply won’t work for these deep-pocketed and inconsiderate boaters.
