What a jewel deep in the Toba marine wilderness! We weren’t expecting to find anything up in that area, but we were low on ice and dreaming of hot showers when we saw our handy boater’s guide notes on the aptly named Toba Wilderness Marina. We called and they were able to squeeze us in that very afternoon. We were greeted at the dock as we rounded the corner to our slip and were happy for the assistance getting our 41’ ft Hunter sloop tied in. All the staff/owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. The meticulously clean showers/full bathrooms were complementary, as was the ice! We had shore power and plentiful fresh water that comes from a local spring. We were encouraged to use all we like so we took the opportunity to wash down our salty vessel and get her shined up. There are 3 walking trails, all with views out to the sound or Toba Inlet. We enjoyed meeting other boaters there - everyone was very friendly and helpful. After luxurious showers and a peaceful night’s sleep it was the perfect jumping off point to explore spectacular Toba inlet the next morning. We look forward to returning on our next trip up into this jaw droppingly beautiful part of the world. The only caveat to this lovely marina is the cost. They are off-grid up there, so all the power comes from generators, which are not cheap to operate. Hot showers, fresh water, power and a safe harbor are worth a lot when you’re up there for a few days! Another caveat: a mama grizzly and her 2 cubs made an appearance that evening, on the beach next to the marina… and just minutes after we’d come back from our hike into the woods! Toba Marina also provides complementary bear spray!
