Our stay, over Labor Day weekend, was lovely as always. Since our club has an annual mini-cruise to Edgartown for Labor Day, I made reservations as soon as they opened up in March. From what I understand, they were sold out quickly. Yet despite the fine weather, there were surprising numbers of moorings that were not occupied, on the holiday weekend. Undoubtedly, a lot of boaters were skunked out of a mooring and would have been happy to have one of them. That suggests the moorings are being poorly managed, a lose-lose for the town's revenue and boaters who would like to spend Labor Day in Edgartown.
Also, a minor glitch. When we came in, we were assigned a mooring that clearly did not have enough swing space for a 40' boat. They moved us, but we'd rather have avoided that inconvenience.
Note that there was a breach between the main island and Chappaquiddick over the winter, and current is again running strong. Unless there is at least about 10 kts of wind, boats do not swing the same direction, and can easily wind up stern-to-stern.
