On the positive side, the location at 18th Street in Manhattan is great for accessing the High Line, Whole Foods, amazing architecture, bike paths, etc. in addition, the dock staff was friendly, responsive and professional. But the location on the water was very tough. Waves from wakes and wind coming in from all directions-our 30’ Tartan was bucking like a bronco for 3 days, to the right, then jerked by the lines to the left, thrown back and jerked forward. A brand new heavy duty dock line busted and two others suffered bad west, but it was more my sleep that suffered. I felt like I was in a washing machine. The oddness of being next to a golf driving range which never shuts off its bright halogen lights and the silliness of having to pay $20 for a shower when I’m already paying $240/ night for poorly sheltered dockage added to my dismay. I am grateful Chelsea Piers took me in a day early when a squall blew up at 9 pm such that my anchorage was no longer viable. But next time I will go to the calm waters of Liberty Marina and sleep.
