The mooring balls are an affordable option to explore Sarasota. They are an easy dinghy ride away from the dinghy docks (if it is calm) where you can explore the city. They have nice but small restrooms and showers and coin laundry. The dock slips are very expensive, as is the Marina Jack restaurant with $40-$80 dinners. The mooring field is exposed to inconsiderate big boat wakes and to S-SW winds which will bounce you around. At $48/night these are some of the most expensive mooring balls we’ve seen, and not the best due to the exposure, but if you want to visit Sarasota and don’t want to pay exorbitant slip fees (like us), then this is a good option.
