This is a very worthwhile stay on cruise of this area. The Yacht Club dock staff is very courteous & helpful, and the docks & facilities are good. The small town of Stonington is the reason to visit. This small town simply gushes with New England charm. The few blocks of commercial stores offer a fun (though limited) variety of things to poke your head into, and there's a few nice restaurants nestled among them. Be forewarned: Monday - the day we visited - most of the restaurants are closed. Happily, the Dog Watch Cafe (nestled in one of the marinas) had a VERY good lunch, along with a fair-priced wine list, including some nice rosé wine choices that we appreciated. The yacht club itself is a nice new building with very clean & new facilities. Note, though, that it is a bit of a walk away from the docks, up a short drive & across the street, and that it must be open in order to access rest rooms & showers. It opens at 8:30am weekdays, which might affect your departure plans, or overnight needs. Next time we're cruising through this area, the only reason we wouldn't stop here is if we wanted to explore another town nearby. Otherwise, it's a worthy stop.
