Report Review
The staff was very helpful, and the location is fantastic, situated within feet of Savannah’s River Walk.
With that said, this location is “bare bones” and not for the feint of heart. This is not a marina, rather it is a dock along the seawall that provides good power and water, but that’s it. There are no other amenities, no parking, no showers, no heads, no dock carts, no fuel, etc.
Most importantly, you are totally exposed to the wakes of heavy boat traffic including numerous sea-going ships coming in and out of Savannah, and especially from the ferry and private powerboats that apparently care less about being responsible for damage incurred by their wakes. (Why there isn’t a “No Wake” zone on the stretch in front of these docks is beyond me.) We were prepared for this, having read previous reviews, and hung plenty of fenders. Other than being jolted awake a couple times through the night, it was tolerable, and we took no damage.
Also beware of floating debris coming down the river. Thanks to the advice from the staff, we docked on our port side with our bow facing upriver. This proved to be good advice, since during the day a large tree trunk wedged itself between our hull and dock. Had we been stern-to we could have taken damage to our exposed running gear.
Overall, the location made up for the many shortcomings, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again. But boater beware.
