Report Review
I was here for the first time the whole 2026 season, so I had plenty of time to see how the place operates. It's been a month since I was last there, so the giddiness has worn off. One imagines how a marina might be run, sorta by the book. But, based on my experience with lots of E Coast marinas, it's just an imagined construct. Here, things work like they should -- knowledgeable and skilled dockhands who actively dock boats from 18' to 180' or so, who can tie the perfect cleat hitch every time, who know the in's and out's of electric service, who really run up and down the dock to meet inbound craft, and who actually help boats leave the dock, and more. The oddities continue. The owner, Roland, who probably has much higher value efforts to expend, often handles dock lines himself. The marina manager, Jeremy, a constant presence on the docks, has run several other challenging non-marine operations. The result: a curated team of high-service boat handling pros. Even ignoring the fact that the marina is on the edge of downtown Rockland, perhaps the capital of Penobscot Bay, with multiple cultural and fine-dining venues, this marina is a must-stop on any trip to the Maine midcoast.
